How to use this free page

1. Start with a pencil and trace the outside shape of the gingerbread figure.
2. Follow the face, bow tie, buttons, and decorative lines.
3. Add color after tracing; decide whether the details look like icing, clothing, or something you invented.

What the activity asks the artist to do

The arms and legs provide longer curves to follow, while the face and buttons invite closer attention to small shapes. Let the child trace one area at a time rather than asking for a perfect outline. For a Christmas coloring activity, the traced character can be finished with a familiar cookie palette or an entirely imaginative one.

An optional idea for the next picture

Imagine this gingerbread character arriving at a holiday party. On separate paper, draw a small accessory or write an invented name. That extra idea is optional; the downloadable page itself is the tracing-and-coloring activity.
