Print on US Letter paper. Use “fit to page” to keep the artwork inside your printer’s margins; for grid activities use the same print setting on both pages. The original JPG is also available if you prefer printing from an image.

How to use this free page

1. Print both pages of the PDF: the character reference and the blank grid.
2. Find a reference square and locate the same labeled square on your worksheet.
3. Copy the lines in that square, continue across the character, then add color if you wish.

What the activity asks the artist to do

The candy cane’s curved top and stripe divisions give this worksheet a distinctive copying task. Look at where a line enters or leaves the edge of a square instead of guessing the whole curve at once. The grid helps organize the reference, but the child still makes the drawing with their own pencil marks.

An optional idea for the next picture

After copying the cartoon, choose stripe colors and a finish for its face. A familiar red-and-white candy cane palette is one option; an invented combination is another. This activity is grid drawing, not tracing over the character or following six numbered construction stages.
